About the Boston University MS-SLP Program
In this blog, the Boston University MS-SLP Program Requirements will be explained. The Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has accredited Boston University's Master of Science (M.S.) education program in speech-language pathology (residential) (ASHA).
The program's objective is to equip students with the skills they need to begin clinical practice in compliance with MA state licencing regulations and ASHA certification criteria.
Enrolling in one of the top speech-language pathology schools in the nation will prepare you for much more than just passing the certification exams. Your education will feature a unique mix of clinical, academic, and research opportunities at Boston University's College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College.
Program Prerequisites
Before applying to the program at Boston University, there are no prerequisite courses that must be completed. But before matriculation, some schoolwork needs to be finished.
General Coursework Requirements:
According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), one course must be taken in each of the following categories:
● Biological Sciences (no lab required)
● Physical Sciences (Physics or Chemistry; no lab required)
● Social/Behavioral Sciences
● Statistics (must be a stand-alone course and not part of a Research Methods course)
These courses must be successfully completed with a grade of "C" or above at any accredited university, whether in-person or online. A score of 4 or 5 on the AP exam qualifies for credit.
Field Specific Coursework Requirements:
Boston University's requirements for field-specific coursework include the following:
● Phonetics (SAR SH221)
● Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech Mechanism (SAR SH522)
● Language Acquisition (SAR SH524)
● Diagnostic Audiology/Introduction to Audiology (SAR SH535)
● Introduction to the Clinical Process (SAR SH547)
● Aural Rehabilitation (SAR SH542)
Admission Requirements for the MS-SLP Program
Transmit all official transcripts to CSDCAS, not Boston University. As CSDCAS needs three to four weeks to validate transcripts, we strongly advise you to send in all of your transcripts before the application deadline.
Prior to admission, all admitted students to the MS-SLP program must earn a baccalaureate degree at an authorised institution.
The MS-SLP program does not require GRE results for admission. The MS-SLP program's admissions committee will not take any GRE results into consideration.
Official TOEFL iBT results are necessary for overseas students whose first language is not English, unless they have earned a baccalaureate degree from an institution where English is the language of instruction and course requirements. Most competitive applicants will have a TOEFL iBT composite score of 90 to 100 and minimum scores of 20 in each part.
There must be three (3) letters of recommendation. We strongly advise that both of the letters come from professors at the collegiate level who are aware of your intellectual prowess.
Three short-answer essays are required by Boston University. Each essay must be no longer than 1500 characters, or roughly 250 words, and it must be submitted when asked to do so in the CSDCAS application.
In the "Program Materials" portion of the CSDCAS application, under the "Documents" option, applicants must upload a copy of their CV or resume.
Maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for continued enrolment in the graduate program. Students are put on probation and are not permitted to take part in a clinical experience while they are on probation if their GPA drops below 3.0 in any semester. Students who have a GPA below 3.0 for more than one semester in a row will have their enrollment in the program cancelled.
